News & Announcements

3/13/20   This evening I called our second emergency board meeting in regards to the Covid-19 situation. At the first meeting, we set in place protocols and procedures in compliance with the requests of the State of Michigan and the CDC.  However, this rapidly evolving and fluid situation has resulted in many contributing factors changing the dynamics of the state of affairs.

Whereas the President of the United States has declared a National Emergency

Whereas the Governor of the State of Michigan via Executive Order has declared there will be no gatherings of 250 or more people

Whereas public gatherings are being discouraged via our local Health Department

Whereas all Michigan public and private schools have suspended meeting

Whereas all universities and colleges have suspended meeting (including Olivet Nazarene University and Spring Arbor University)

Whereas the General Church of the Nazarene has urged all local churches to comply with all government mandates and wishes

Whereas your pastor and local church board wish to not do anything to undermine the safety and well-being of our church family and/or the community that we seek to serve and not hurt…

Your board has voted overwhelmingly to suspend all services until further notice.

We wish to make it very clear that the church body is alive and well!  We will not be underground, but will be working even harder to be the hands and feet of Jesus Christ!

For one, we will be making service available this Sunday via the internet.  Also, we will be even more dependent on the offerings and contributions to keep AFCON alive, healthy and continuing to minister.  Now is not the time to shrink back.  Now is the time to double our efforts to be salt and light.  Plans for ministry will not be pulled back, but will increase exponentially to meet the needs of our church family and our community.  I and the AFCON staff will do everything in our power to be part of the solution, to be agents of healing, and to be Ambassadors of the Grace of our Savior!  To be sure, we are still reaching up and reaching out!

In the words of our Savior, “I will build my Church and the gates of Hades (death and hell) will not overcome it.”  Don’t worry one bit.  We have survived famine, persecution, natural disasters, depressions, the plague, and viruses before.  The devil has thrown everything he has got at us and he will keep doing so until his head is crushed under the Risen Savior’s heal.  I am so looking forward to that day!  But in the meantime, “We are more than conquerors through Him who loved us.”  Further, “No weapon formed against us shall prosper”!

The church adapts.  The church improvises.  The church is alive, not rigid.  The church finds new tools and means to express the love of Christ and His redemptive work constantly.  This is no different!  “Greater is He who is in you than he who is in the world.”  Amen and Maranatha (come quickly, Lord Jesus)!

Stay tuned…further details and opportunities will be coming soon…

In His grip,

Pastor Dave
