DISCIPLESHIP DEVELOPMENT

Mathew 28:18-20 “Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”

The Church of the Nazarene is committed to The Great
Commission and takes seriously the command that Jesus gives us to make disciples.

In pursuit of this, our Discipleship Ministries offers Life Groups open to adults of all ages

1. Life groups members will seek to become Christ-like in their daily walk as they commit to the study of God’s Word with other Christians.

2. Life group members will pray over and sign a Disciples covenant. (found below)

3. Life group meetings will provide a safe place where all members can share freely knowing that what is shared will be held in the strictest of confidence.

4. Life group members will have an accountability partner within the group. They will support and encourage each other in the following ways.

a. Hold each other accountable to walk daily with Christ utilizing the regular practice of spiritual disciplines.
b. Pray for each other daily.

c. Always give grace in times of failure

5. Life group members will support the goal to grow and multiply life groups. As such, members will realize that the specific members and dynamics of each group will fluctuate as new groups are formed.

6. Life group members should prayerfully consider leading a life group.

1. Life groups can consist of as few as 3-4 but no more than 10-12 people. Having too many inhibits being able to be authentic and open with each other.

2. Times and places of meetings can and will vary as additional groups are formed. Meetings can last from 1-2 hours in length based on the needs and availability of group members and leaders.

3. Meetings will be held weekly or bi-weekly based on the needs and availability of group members.

4. The pastoral staff will approve and train all group leaders.

5. The pastoral staff will approve all curriculums.

6. Meetings will consist of a time of checking in with each other and sharing prayer requests, then Bible study, and then closing with a time of reflection and discussion of goals for the upcoming week(s).

1. To the best of my ability, I will complete any reading assignments ahead of time, or listen to the coordinating sermon, so I can contribute fully to the group discussion.

2. I commit to meet consistently with my Discipleship life group to dialogue over the content of the curriculum.

3. I offer myself fully to the Lord with the anticipation that I am entering a time of accelerated transformation during this discipleship period.

4. I commit to a climate of honesty and personal vulnerability in a spirit of mutual up-building and maintain strict confidentiality to foster trust.

5. I will give thoughtful consideration and prayer to the continuation of the discipling chain by investing in 1-2 others over the course of the next 1-2 years.
